From the Beginning

Small Town Roots
The Berne Overall & Shirt Company was founded in 1915, in the small town of Berne, Indiana. The business began by manufacturing shirts, overalls, dungarees, smocks, shop coats and aprons for local farmers in the community.
Over 100 Years of Growth
In the late 1950s Berne became a supplier for Sears & Roebuck, Co., shifting production primarily to unlined coveralls and earning the Sears Symbol of Excellence on multiple occasions. A winning bid from the US Air Force also granted substantial working capital, allowing the company further growth.
In 2009, Berne expanded to its current HQ in Ossian, Indiana. This high-tech facility is nearly 200,000 square feet and can house 155,000 boxes. The company employs over 100 workers who can pack and ship 18,000 units in an 8-hour shift.

Today at Berne, we still believe in the value of hard work, the importance of understanding the needs of hard-working people, and in giving back to our community. Our mission is simple: to craft durable, affordable workwear that not only performs, but uplifts those who wear it.
